The Compton Heights neighborhood lies near the highest point in St. Louis, and just South of the geographical center.
It covers an L-shaped area wrapping the Compton Hill neighborhood and Reservoir Park on the South and East sides.
Located on the near Southside of the City of St. Louis in the shadow of the great water tower of Reservoir Park, the neighborhood is one of the earliest planned residential developments of the American 19th century.
Laid out in 1889 in accordance with a plan that viewed nature-as-neighbor and not as an enemy to be subjugated by some rectilinear grid, its wide setbacks and curving streets create remarkable vistas, which are punctuated by more than 200 homes of extraordinary and varied interest.
The entire neighborhood is a local historic district.

Due to its close proximity to a wide variety of attractions (entertainment, recreation, schools, shopping, medical facilities, and churches), Compton Heights is an enjoyable, as well as convenient place to live.
Compton Heights is only minutes from the business districts of Downtown St. Louis and Clayton. Some of the city’s newest attractions are within a couple of miles of Compton Heights including Union Station (and The Wheel), the St. Louis Aquarium, The Armory, City Foundry, Enterprise Center, Stifel Theatre, as well as a wide variety of merchants along South Grand Avenue. In the past few years, South Grand has seen rejuvenation unmatched in any other part of the City.
For sports enthusiasts, Compton Heights is just a few minutes from Busch Stadium, Enterprise Center, as well as CITYPARK, home of the St Louis SC. Tennis courts, a jogging and biking trail, and softball fields are all available in nearby historic Tower Grove Park (www.towergrovepark.org). Compton Hill Reservoir Park provides a peaceful place to enjoy a picnic, a walk, bike riding, or fun at the playgrounds. This lovely park is being restored to its grand Victorian days. The water tower, restored several years ago, and lighted each evening, is a landmark in South St. Louis and within walking distance of Compton Heights.
St. Louis University and Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital are just a couple of the health care facilities a few minutes from Compton Heights.
The St. Louis Grand Center Art and Entertainment District, which includes The Fabulous Fox and Powell Hall, is close by. Restaurants are springing up all over. For good old “American” food or just about every ethnic food you desire—you will find it in our extended neighborhood. You won’t find any area of St. Louis more conveniently located than Compton Heights. A walk through our lovely community will convince you that this is a "gem" of a neighborhood.
